Veterans honored for 70-year Legion memberships

By CHARLIE DENISON | Staff Writer

Three Lewistown men were honored Wednesday for accomplishing a remarkable feat.
Clint Sennett, Richard Langford and Frank Valach were celebrated on Veterans Day for their longstanding devotion to the American Legion.

All three World War II veterans have been members for more than 70 years each.
“It’s really rare to see this kind of achievement,” American Legion Post 16 Adjutant Tom Killham said. “I’ve been adjutant for 20 years and I’ve never seen someone make it to 70 years of membership. And to have three of them, well, that’s special.”
Killham said the commitment made by these men speaks highly of their characters and also speaks highly of the organization.

To show gratitude for their historical undertaking, Killham and American Legion Post 16 Commander Don Bost presented the men with certificates and lapel pens during a ceremony at the Skilled Nursing Center. Killham introduced the men to those in attendance and read a certificate of participation.

The reading highlighted the Legion’s gratitude for Sennett, Langford and Valach and thanked them for their devotion.
Bost did the same as he passed out the pens.

“We’re following you,” he said to Langford, a member for 71 years, “but we’ve got a long way to go.”
