Since 1925, The American Legion has sponsored a nationwide youth baseball program. During these past seven decades, millions of young players have enjoyed playing baseball. The American Legion adn their 2.8 million members have raised millions of dollars each year for players to learn the importance of teamwork, discipline, leadership, and good sportsmanship. The American Legion sponsors American Legion Baseball to give players an opportunity to develop their skills, personal fitness, leadership qualities, and to have fun. At the 2012 Fall meetings the National Executive Committee adopted Resolution No. 16 “Mandatory Background Check Screening For Coaches, Managers and Volunteer Staff of Junior and Senior American Legion Baseball Teams”. This resolution states that effective with the 2013 season, all coaches, managers, and volunteer staff for Junior and Senior American Legion Baseball teams must have background check screening conducted by an exclusive provider each season prior to any meetings, events, practices or games that involve youth participants, and that coaches, managers and volunteer staff of American Legion Baseball teams must comply with the risk management policies of The American Legion that are established for the enhanced protection of children and youth.
