Andrew Pearson Post 117 Billings is proud to host their first Department Convention along with our fellow Legionnaires from Laurel Post 123 and Park City Post 100 and our goal is to make it the most memorable convention of the last forty years!
The 2017 convention will be held at the Red Lion Hotel & Convention Center at 1223 Mullowney Lane just off of King Ave. and I90. It is easily accessible from the interstate and those who do not like city driving will be relieved to know that they can exit the interstate and be just three hundred yards from the convention center.
Our Goal is to create a convention atmosphere but more importantly an atmosphere of camaraderie for all to enjoy. This is the largest gathering of Montana Legionnaires each year and we want everyone to spend the time together having fun and learning from each other. We understand that it can be expensive to attend convention and often, convention attendees rent the least expensive hotel room they can find to help minimize their costs. We want everyone to stay together at the same hotel thus maximizing their experience so we have gone to great lengths to incentivize you to stay at the convention hotel. We have secured a very reasonable room rate of $92 per night at the convention hotel and EVERONE who books their room and stays at the convention hotel will be entered into a drawing for $500 cash! That’s right, you could rent a room for ten dollars less per night and save thirty or forty dollars for the weekend but those who stay at the convention hotel are automatically entered into the drawing for $500!
The Red Lion Hotel & Convention Center has spacious, modern rooms, and comfortable beds that you are sure to enjoy AND it has a restaurant, bar and casino for your enjoyment. Many of the rooms open into a large courtyard complete with patio furniture, a grill, and a stage for entertainment, perfect for your hospitality rooms and 40/8 BBQ. Speaking of the 40/8 BBQ on Thursday night, Post 117 has booked a mother and daughter country music duo from Hardin, Montana; Laurie & Cora Wood who will perform in the courtyard during the Thursday night BBQ for your enjoyment. These ladies can sing! So you will want to come down a day early, show your support for the 40/8 and start your convention early.
On Friday night after business is concluded you will definitely want to attend the American Legion Auxiliary banquet. The women of the Auxiliary work their tails off to support us all year long and believe me; they put on a good dinner. If you choose not to go to the dinner (its okay if you don’t, but you should) we have booked fellow Legionnaire, Post 117 member, and retired U.S. Marine GT Hurley to perform in the hotel lounge. For those who do go to the Auxiliary banquet, don’t worry, GT will still be playing great country music that you can dance to after the banquet is over. You do NOT want to miss GT’s performance; he has a great repertoire of original music including some great patriotic songs as well as old standards and modern favorites. Bring your dancing shoes; you are going to need them!
If music or dancing isn’t your thing but gambling is, we have set up a special field trip just for you! We have secured a chauffeured bus to some of the best casinos in Billings that includes FREE drinks on the bus, match play at every casino on the tour and everyone who joins in on this exciting gambling tour will have an opportunity to win one of TWO $500 prizes! That’s right; YOU could have a one in twenty to one in forty chance of winning $500 before you even get to the first casino! There are only 20 seats available on the bus so you will want to register for this exciting event early. Details of how to register will be announced before the convention. Those who stay at the convention hotel and successfully register for this excursion will receive one extra entry in the drawing!
The Red Lion Hotel and Convention Center has spacious, air conditioned, meeting rooms for all Legion, Auxiliary, and committee meetings. You will enjoy every minute of this convention be it work or play. The friendly staff at the convention center is second to none in hospitality and service and we are proud to partner with this great group of people. The Red Lion hotel and Convention Center has hosted the annual Post 117 banquet for the last three years and they go above and beyond when it comes to accommodating us and our guests.
On Saturday night you will certainly want to attend the Legion banquet in the main banquet hall. This room is equipped with air conditioning, state of the art audio and visual equipment, and comfortable seating. You will enjoy a delicious catered dinner and multiple no host bars serving your favorite beverages as well as informative and entertaining addresses given by our Department Commander and his guests.
After the Saturday night banquet you will want to retire to the hotel lounge for another rousing round of entertainment by GT Hurley. Work off those calories from dinner by dancing with your spouse or significant other and spend time with your friends and fellow Legionnaires. Convention only comes but once a year and conventions like this only happen once in a blue moon. Make the most of it!
Be sure to enjoy breakfast in the hotel restaurant on Sunday morning before attending church services and the final meeting and installation of officers. After staying in these comfortable accommodations you won’t be ready for convention to end. You could go somewhere else at any time during the convention but why would you? Everything you could want or desire will be in one convenient place!
Book your room for ONLY $92 per night by calling the Red Lion Hotel and Convention Center at 406-248-7151. We have a block of seventy rooms and they are first come first serve so book your room NOW!
